چکیده

α-Amylase (1, 4-ƒ¿-D-Glucan glucanohydrolase E.C. 3. 2. 1. 1.) distributes widely in micro organisms, animals and plants. In animals, the characterization of the enzyme was reported using the rat1), mouse2), hamster3), dog4), rabbit5), cat6), kangaroo7), silkworm8) and human9-10). Our previous reports indicated that the serum amylase was released from the parotid gland by the administration of sympathomimetic or parasympathomimetic drugs11). We reported that the parotid gland was a major source of serum amylase in mouse12). Although the amylase activity in rat serum is not so high as that in the parotid gland or the pancreas, the serum amylase keeps at a constant level of activity. We reported previously that starch or glycogen was hydrolyzed by rat serum and oligosaccharide and glucose were produced by enzyme reactions13). The purpose of this experiment is to find out the amylase activity in the the serum of some animals and to compare the enzyme activities and isoamylase patterns in some of the organs of the animals.

Two-step purification and partial characterization of an extra cellular α-amylase from Bacillus licheniformis

The aim of this study was production and partial purification of α-amylase enzyme by Bacillus licheniformis. B. Licheniformis was allowed to grow in broth culture for purpose of inducing α-amylase enzyme. Optimal conditions for amylase production by B. Licheniformis are incubation period of 120 h, temperature of 37 °C and pH 7.0. The α-amylase enzyme was purified by ion exchange chromatography ...

Variation in amylase haplotypes among congenic lines of the house mouse.

Pancreatic amylase in the mouse displays considerable quantitative genetic variation. Agar gel electrophoresis reveals that homozygous animals have either one form of the enzyme, type A, or two forms, type AB. Only few animals have been found that contradict this statement, namely among Mus musculus castaneous from Thailand, which has a single-banded B type. Double-banded homozygous specimens o...

Electrophoretic pattern of amylase isoenzymes in serum and urine of normal persons.

We separated and measured amylase isoenzymes in the serum and urine of 3036 normal persons by electrophoresis on a thin layer of polyacrylamide gel. We wished to establish the normal pattern of these isoenzymes and to evaluate the usefulness of this method of electrophoresis in clinical diagnosis. Results for patients with hyper- or hypofunctioning pancreas and salivary glands suggested that es...

Methods compared for determining total amylase activity and amylase isoenzymes in serum.

We evaluated two kinetic methods for determining total amylase activity and isoenzyme composition in serum. Stability studies of reagents for measuring total activity indicate that reagents containing 4-nitrophenyl-alpha-glucosides or enzyme-linked reagents can be stored only for seven days at 4 degrees C. Methods based on 4-nitrophenyl-alpha-glucoside substrates cannot be used if the reagent a...

Genetic variation in amount of salivary amylase in the bank vole, Clethrionomys glareola.

Several investigated bank vole populations are polymorphis for the number of salivary amylase loci, and individual chromosomes may carry one, two or three linked amylase structural genes. In the present study, we have used bank vole stocks homozygous for different chromosomes to investigate the relationship between amylase production and gene number. By measuring the amylase activity in parotid...
